JAMES HENRY CHITWOOD
JULY 18, 1941 - JANUARY 6, 2012James Henry Chitwood, 70, of Clute passed away at his home Friday, January 6, 2012 after a lengthy illness.
He was born July 18, 1941 in Wilson, Oklahoma to Ira and Mae Chitwood. James was a member of Pipefitters Local 211 and the Damon Hunting Club. He attended Shady Oaks Assembly of God for many years. He was best known in the community as "James Henry the Sax Man". He brought his musical talents to Texas in 1961 to the old Hurricane Club with his band The Corvairs. He continued to make music until 2008. His last gig was playing for the Brazosport High School Reunion Class of 1963.
James loved the Lord, his family, his music and drag racing his "1 quick 6" turbo Buick Grand National. James was an avid outdoorsman, hunter and fisherman. He will be greatly missed by all who knew and loved him.
He was preceded in death by his parents and his brothers and sisters, Bobby Chitwood, Dewayne Chitwood, Joyce Macek and Myrna Morris.
James is survived by his wife Ginger Whittle Chitwood and his children Debbie Chitwood Mikel, Tracy Chitwood and Troy Chitwood; seven grandchildren, Jason Robertson and wife Brandi, Jessica Robertson, Kelsey Chitwood, Dylan Chitwood, Arien Da Cunha, Gage Chitwood and Taylor Chitwood; two great grandchildren, Jazmin Brooks and Jaxon Robertson
The family will receive friends Monday, January 9, 2012 from 5-8 PM at Stroud Funeral Home with a Funeral service being held at 6:00 PM with Rev. Ken Murray, an old family friend and pastor, officiating.
