Doris Murrell, 74, of Lake Jackson, went to be with her Lord and Savior Thursday, July 1, 2010, in Houston. She was born January 6, 1936, to Elmer and Willie Mae Long.
Doris was an area resident for many years and attended Brazosport High School. She was an accomplished artist painting portraits and landscapes for many area residents. Doris has won many awards for her artistry and was a member of the Brazosport Art League.
She is survived by her loving husband of 55 years, V. L. “Buddy” Murrell; son, Gil Murrell; her 91 year-old mother, Willie Mae Long; brothers, Jimmy Long and wife, Dee and Eddie Long and wife, Karen; and many other loving relatives and friends.
She was preceded in death by her father, Elmer Long; sister, Annette Smith; her father and mother-in-law, Earl and Beaulah Murrell.
Funeral services will be held at 2:00 p.m., Saturday, July 3, 2010, at First Baptist Church in Clute with Bro. Lyndon Pettijohn officiating. Interment will be at Gulf Prairie Cemetery in Jones Creek at a later date.
In lieu of flowers, the family request donations be made the First Baptist Church Library Fund.
