RUBY EVELYN DOZIER HILL
FEBRUARY 21, 1926 - FEBRUARY 20, 2010Ruby Evelyn Dozier Hill, age 83, of Angleton, formerly of Lake Jackson, passed away Saturday, February 20, 2010 at Cypress Woods Care Center.
Ruby Hill was born on February 21, 1926, in Okmulgee, OK and graduated from Okmulgee High School in 1944. Her first job was as a telephone operator in Okmulgee. She married Roy "Bud" Hill Jr. on October 31, 1946. Primarily a homemaker, Ruby and Bud had 5 children from 1948 to 1958. Along the way, Ruby worked various jobs through the years, at Sears, at a local credit union and as a babysitter for several children. She was a lifelong member of the Church of the Nazarene and a charter member of the Lake Jackson Church of the Nazarene. In the Lake Jackson Church of the Nazarene, she served in a variety of roles including Sunday school teacher, nursery attendant and missionary president. She and Bud were also members of the Brazosport Good Sam RV Club. The main avocation for the 5'2" Ruby was being the calm, patient, understanding and loving wife of 54 years to her 6'5" energetic, always on the go, adventure-seeking husband, Bud. Throughout their 54 years together they shared many vacations, family reunions, camping trips, mission trips, building projects and adventures.
Survivors include sons, David Hill and wife, Linda of Crystal Lake, Illinois, Robert Hill and wife, Joann of Lake Jackson and Richard (Rick) Hill and wife, Donna of College Station; daughters, Kathy Crowder and husband, Norman of Gardner, Kansas and Donna Fay Hill of Houston; grandchildren, Damon Hill and wife, Michele, Taylor Hill, Logan Fraser and husband, Tim, Timothy Hill, Kimberly Hill, Jeanette Custer and husband, Zacc, Jason Crowder and wife, Debra, Rachel Bowman and husband, Clint, Misti Carter and husband, Eric, and Lexi Hill; great-grandchildren, Morgan Hill, the soon-to-arrive Kingston Fraser, Branden Custer, Brianna Crowder, Christopher Bowman, Jack Carter and Mason Carter; sisters, Virginia Robison and husband, Darrell, Barbara Duley and husband, George; brother, Harold Dozier and wife, Joan; sisters-in-law, Hazel Aldridge, Edith Shipp and Jean Baxter and husband, Wendell; and brother-in-law, Troy Aldridge.
She was preceded in death by her husband of 54 years, Roy "Bud" Hill, Jr. on March 20, 2001; her parents, W. O. and Hazel Dozier; sister, Myrtle Snowder; brothers, Charles and Billy Dozier; and great-grandson, Wesley Michael Bowman.
Funeral services for Ruby Hill will be held Friday, February 26, 2010 at 10:00 a.m. at the Lake Jackson Church of the Nazarene with Pastor Ken Christoffesen officiating.
Interment will be at the Houston National Cemetery.
Visitation will be Thursday, February 25th from 5 to 7 p.m. at Stroud Funeral Home in Clute, Texas.
Special thanks to the staff and residents of Cypress Woods Care Center who lovingly took care of Ruby for the final three years of her life.
Words cannot express the family's gratitude and thanks to her son, Robert and his family for being the primary caretakers of Mom throughout her final nine years of life after Dad died.
