Verna Mae Savoie Breaux, 86, passed away peacefully on August 29, 2025. Verna was born on January 12, 1939 in Lake Arthur, Louisiana to Joe and Ena Savoie.
Verna was raised in Lake Arthur. She married Leroy Joseph Breaux on September 13, 1958 in Lake Arthur and they were married for 63 years before his passing in 2021. They lived their early married life in Louisiana. In 1968, they moved their young family to Clute, Texas as Leroy began work on the construction of the Dow Badische plant. Verna remained a stay at home mother until her children completed high school. She then began a part-time career in furniture sales at Sears in Lake Jackson and retired from there. Verna and Leroy were faithful members of St. Jerome’s Catholic Church in Clute where their children were raised. Verna is a member of the Catholic Daughters.
Verna is survived by her four children, Wynona Atnip and husband, Mark; Brenda McGough and husband, Richard; Jennifer Breaux and husband Craig; and Leroy Breaux, Jr. and wife, Toni. She is also survived by six grandsons, Jason Talbot and wife, Sarah; Zachary Gilliam and wife Dayna; Brock Talbot; Christopher Atnip and wife, Kasey; Shane Gilliam; and Casey Atnip and wife, Sara. She is also survived by her six great- grandchildren, Callie Gilliam, Nicole Gilliam, Henley Talbot, Jaxon Talbot, Owen Atnip and Avery Atnip. Her brother, John Chester Savoie, also survives her.
Verna was predeceased by her husband, Leroy; her grandson, Brandon Talbot; her sisters, Helena Elkins and Bonnie Broussard; and her brother, A.J. Savoie.
The family would like to express gratitude to Sodalis Assisted Living, IPH Home Health and Hospice, Pam Tatum, Kathy Isaacs and Yuvetta Jones for their assistance in her care over the past few years.
A mass of Christian Burial will be held at St. Jerome’s Catholic Church in Clute, Texas on Wednesday, September 3, 2025 at 2:00 pm with a rosary preceding the mass at 1:30. A private family burial will follow the mass.
Pallbearers will be her grandsons.
