June 18, 1936-April 5, 2026

The family of Joyce (Dedear) Gullett is sad to announce that she passed away at the age of 89 on April 5, 2026.

Joyce grew up on a small farm in Yoakum, Texas along with her brothers Dennis and Robert, and her sister Mary Lou. She was a very bright young girl and an excellent student. In fact, she skipped the 2nd grade altogether, graduating from high school in 1953 when she was only 17.

That following year she went on a blind date with a young man named Charlie Gullett. They fell in love and were married in 1956. They remained together until his death in 2024. Their happy union resulted in two children, three grandchildren, and a great grandchild.

As her children grew up and became independent, Joyce decided she wanted to transition from being a homemaker. She enrolled in Sam Houston State University and graduated summa cum laude with a Bachelor of Business Administration degree.

Joyce was also an accomplished seamstress. She created custom clothing for herself and her family, even sewing her eldest daughter’s wedding gown. She crafted beautiful quilts that she frequently gave to her friends and family as well as making and donating countless lap blankets to programs for veterans and foster children.

Joyce leaves behind her children Susan Golden (Mike), and Sharon Parry (Russell), as well as her grandchildren, Dr. Brad Golden (Mindy), Mitch Parry, and Allie Parry (Mark Spinks), and one great grandson Everett Golden.

The family has elected to hold a private service. Should family or friends desire, memorial contributions may be made to cancer research.
