Leroy Joseph Breaux

Leroy Joseph Breaux, Sr., 83, passed away peacefully on Monday, November 15, 2021.  Leroy was born in Gueydan, Louisiana on December 7, 1937 to Elliott and Irene Racca Breaux.

Leroy was raised in Gueydan, Louisiana and was one of 11 children. He married Verna Savoie on  September 13, 1958 in Lake Arthur, Louisiana.  They lived their early married life in Louisiana.  In 1968 they moved their young family to Clute, Texas and he began work on the construction of the Dow Badische plant.  He worked in the construction industry for Hudson Engineering the majority of his life.  He had a couple of short-term assignments in Louisiana and Virginia and moved his young family with him.  After retirement from Hudson Engineering he began a short second career overseeing the installation of underground utilities in new subdivisions in the Lake Jackson and Houston area.  After his second retirement, he began some of his favorite work, being out on his tractor.  He loved being on his tractor so much that he began advertising and doing work for the public.  He spent many a day doing his tractor work.  By evening you would find him in his den making jigsaw puzzles, another favorite pastime of his.  He was also known for making some good gumbo.  There was nothing he would rather do than make a big pot of gumbo and have all his family over.  Leroy was a faithful member of St. Jerome’s Catholic Church in Clute.

Leroy is survived by his wife of 63 years, Verna Breaux.  He is also survived by his four children and their spouses, Wynona Atnip and husband, Mark; Brenda McGough and husband, Richard; Jennifer Breaux and husband, Craig; and Leroy Breaux, Jr. and wife, Toni.  He is survived by six grandsons, Jason Talbot, Zachary Gilliam, Brock Talbot, Christopher Atnip, Shane Gilliam and Casey Atnip.  He is survived by five great-grandchildren, Callie Gilliam, Nicole Gilliam, Henley Talbot, Jaxon Talbot, and Owen Atnip.  He is also survived by his siblings, Lena Doucet, Laura Hunnings, Larry Breaux, Sr., Linda Guest, Shirley Denson, Rita Lois Landry and Telsa Ann Breaux.

Leroy was predeceased by his grandson, Brandon Talbot, his grandparents, his parents, his brother, Huland Breaux, and his sisters, Melba Breaux LeGros and Margie Breaux.

Visitation will be held Friday, November 19, 2021 from 11 am to 12 noon at Stroud Funeral Home.  A rosary will be recited at 12:30 pm at St. Jerome’s Catholic Church in Clute, Texas with a Mass of Christian Burial following at the Church at 1:00 pm. Interment will be at Restwood Memorial Park.

Pallbearers will be his grandsons.
