February 23, 1947-March 22, 2026

Verna Verlene Reed, of Brazoria, Texas, went to be with her Savior, Jesus Christ, on March 22, 2026, with her family by her side.

She was born February 23, 1947, in Roatán, Honduras, to Harlan Elwin and Melba Jackson Elwin.

Verna was preceded in death by her loving husband of 52 years, Charles Reed; her sister, Jennie Hauss; and her parents, Harlan and Melba Elwin.

She is survived by her sister, Mabel Bodden; her children, Bruce Reed (wife Dawn), Cheryl Reed (James), and Stephen Reed; her grandchildren, Lynsie Reed, Bryce Reed (Emily), Mathew Harris (Jennifer), Brandon Stapleton (Angelica), Reed Thornton (Michelle), Brooks Reed, Alexander Reed, and Sebastian Flores; along with 12 great-grandchildren.

Verna’s life was rooted in her faith and her love for her family. Mom loved us all—and by “us,” she meant every single member of her family, by blood, by marriage, and by friendship. If we loved you, Mom loved you too.

She loved pink—every shade, every little thing. She loved the Lord, her church, and her church family, reading her Bible daily and finding deep joy in her faith.

She loved music—hymns, Elvis, country music, The Gaithers, and Andrea Bocelli—and enjoyed outings to hear music at Bobby Reed’s theater. She also loved singing in the church choir and attending water aerobics with her friends.

She loved going out to eat, especially for seafood, and she loved birds, especially cardinals, because they made her feel like Dad was visiting.

She cherished summer camping trips with her family and had a special love for her cat, Queenie.

She loved everything about Roatán, which she always called “home.”

She will be remembered for her strength, her devotion, and the lasting impact she had on those who knew her.
