Betty Joyce Hobbs Cowley, 81 of Clute, Texas went to be with her Lord and Savior on Monday, February 3, 2025. She was born on March 12, 1943, in Crisp, Texas to Overbey (O.M.) and Ruby Hathcock Hobbs.

She is preceded in death by her husband of 59 years Donald A.D. Cowley, her parents, brothers Melvin and Larry Hobbs, son-in-law Richard Wooderson, sisters-in-law Robbie Kay Hobbs, Yvonne Wright and Mary Lou Cowley, brothers-in-law Joel Cowley, Jerry Cowley, and Grady Wright, fatherin-law Jessie Cowley and mother-in-law Minnie Ola Terrill, and nieces Toni Rinehart and Sonya Cowley.

She is survived by her daughter Diona Wooderson of Clute, son Duane Cowley and wife Angel of Lake Jackson, grandsons Hayden, Isiah and Kendal Lassiter and Garrett and Levi Cowley, sister Barbara Pardue (Bill), brother Glenn Hobbs (Brenda) and many nieces and nephews.

Betty grew up and attended school in Ferris, Texas where she excelled in basketball. She held the school record for the most points scored in a game for many years. She met the love of her life, Donald Cowley, and moved to the coast. She worked as a Bookkeeping Supervisor at Chemical National Bank (now Texas Gulf Bank) for over 30 years until she retired. After retirement she worked for several non-profits to keep herself busy and earn her shopping and gambling money.

She and Donald were always very active and involved in the community. She was instrumental in creating the first Great Texas Mosquito Festival in Clute and remained active for 42 years until her death. She was a member of Wesley United Methodist Church in Clute.

A Celebration of Life for Betty will be held at 2:00 P.M. Saturday, February 8, 2025, at Wesley First United Methodist located at 1 Wesley Drive, Clute, Texas.
