Janie Guynes of Clute passed away peacefully surrounded by her family at UTMB Health Angleton Danbury Campus on Friday, February 14, 2025. She was born June 11, 1933 in
Alto, TX to Otto & Erma (Ross) Scott. She moved to the Freeport area with her family during her elementary school years. She married the love of her life, Garland Guynes in January 1954. She was a secretary at BASF and Dow Chemical and retired from Dow.

Janie was loved and appreciated by many, oftentimes her family will meet people she knew who will say, “she was always so sweet”. She was multi-talented: an artist, a cake decorator, and a great cook. In her younger years she made beautiful wedding cakes for friends and family. She and Garland had a house on Lake Livingston that they enjoyed with family and friends for many years. All were welcome to come up and fish, swim, have fun, and eat good food; many wonderful memories were made there. She enjoyed traveling and hunting for treasures at Canton, roadside sales, and antique stores. Janie loved her flowering plants and enjoyed tending to them.

Janie was a devoted wife, daughter, mother, granny, aunt, and friend. She was a good woman who was loved and will be missed. Left to cherish her memory is her son, Tommy Guynes and wife Bonnie, her daughter, Cindy Tyler and husband Cotton, her grandchildren: Amy Condon (Bobby), Tommy “TJ” Guynes Jr., Emily Williams (Travis), Jared Guynes (Jenny), and Chris Tyler.
