He was born in San Antonio and raised in Freeport, Texas. He graduated from Brazosport High School and spent most of his life near the coast, rarely straying far from the water.
Johnnie enjoyed surfing and fishing and preferred a simple, independent way of life. He was known to be both independent and stubborn, living life on his own terms.
He is survived by his daughter, Tova Heimeyer; his son-in-law, William Heimeyer; his grandson, Phillup Heimeyer; his granddaughter, Sarah Heimeyer; and his great-grandson, Garrett Wade.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Jesse and Dorothy Cosby; his brothers, Bingo Cosby and Billy Cosby; and his sister, Jerry Cosby.
