Paula Kaye Smith, 74, of Sweeny, went to her heavenly home Tuesday, June 4, 2024, surrounded by her loving family. She is preceded in death by her parents, Paul and Wanda Besch, and her in-laws Bill and Lela Smith. Left to cherish her memory are her adoring husband of 55 years, Darrell Smith; daughters Robbie Richers, Paulette Erikson (Paul); grandchildren Josh, Cody (Erin), Jace, and Caitlin; sister Diana Phillips; brother-in-law Richard Smith(Kathy); numerous nieces and nephews, extended family members and beloved friends.
Paula was born in Bay City, Texas, October 7, 1949. She loved growing up in her small town of Sweeny creating countless memories with her sister, precious cousins, and lifelong friends. As teens, Paula and Darrell met and fell in love building a beautiful life and family with God always at the center.
Paula was a blessing and treasured by all who knew her. She never missed an opportunity to offer encouragement, pray over you, and share the love of Jesus with every person she met. Her greatest joy was the love she shared for God and family. Her children and grandchildren were the light of her life and she was their greatest cheerleader. Whether it was being at a sporting event, birthday party, family get-together, or sharing words of wisdom (aka Paula-isms), she counted it all a true blessing. Paula had a unique way of creating special memories for her family, extended family, and friends that they will treasure forever.
A Celebration of Life for Paula will take place at First Baptist Church Sweeny on Friday, June 7, 2024. Visitation will be held at 10:00 a.m. with memorial service to follow at 11:00 a.m.
